VIVA GLAM

The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, everyone go pink! And you're probably wondering what does this have to do with MAC? MAC is the only make-up line that donates to the cause of AIDS/HIV. The permanent VIVA GLAM collection of lipsticks and lipglasses has helped raise over 100 million dollars in the last past 10 years to help parents and kids affected and infected with AIDS/HIV. 100 percent of the retail selling price of each MAC VIVA GLAM Lipstick and LipGlass goes towards the MAC Aids Fund. Each one of your dollars, helps provide transportation, medicine, food, shelter and clothes for these families. Each year MAC's Viva Glam has a new spokesperson. This year it's Fergie but among these, include Missy Elliot, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Eve, Mary J. Blige, Ru Paul, Lisa Marie Presley, and Dita Von Teese.
THE STATISTIC: 2,700 Viva Glam Lipsticks sold in 1 day at 14.00 US dollars each.
14 x 2,700= $37,800.00 a day.
Over 1 million a year.

FACE CHARTS

Face chart? What is that? It's our carcass, the blue print of our work. I'm sure if you walked in a MAC store or partnered location you will see a book with different evening, day, fantasy, celebrity etc. looks. As MAC artists we are required to make a face chart twice a month to display our artistry skills and at the same time give our clients ideas about what they want to have done when they walk in for their make-up appointment. We all use actual MAC make-up on these papers. No crayons, or markers, but actual make-up! These face charts are also helpful to teach our customers how to blend and what and where to apply on your face. I strongly push you to ask for one next time you walk in to the store. Many of my clients have these hung up on their mirrors as a guide to doing their make-up everyday. Here's a few examples:

Happy Halloween! Some Tricks and Treats!

Happy Halloween everyone! Since I can't virtually share treats with you, I will share some tricks on make-up application. I wanted to remind you, that each MAC artist is different. Each artist, in any type of art is different. Every artist paints, draws, performs, sings etc. differently, therefore what you might find intriguing from other artists, you may not find in me and vice versa. This is why MAC offers you the opportunity to request appointments with the artist of your choice.
Tips and Tricks:
1. For long lasting eyeshadow and opaque color, use MAC's Paint Pods. For a neutral color pod that will go with everything try 'Painterly' or 'Soft Orchre.' You can also use the Prep+Prime for the eyes to provide the same affect and even out the discoloration in your eyelids.

2. The 217 Blending Brush is MAC's almighty! I live, eat, and breathe by this brush. It is a fluffy brush which you can use to add more color to the eyes and blend colors beautifully. It's soft bristles contribute to blending and it feels great on the eyes. Use in circular motion. Remember the colors are suppose to look like they are flowing to the next. No sharp lines! Below is a picture of a beautiful well blended application.

Holiday goes Hollywood

Does anyone remember the DazzleGlass Collection launched earlier in 2008? They sold out at MAC stores and partnered locations within weeks! Well, this Holiday season, Holiday goes Hollywood with the new "Red She Said" MAC Collection launched October 16th 2008. It consists of mineralized triple shadows, nail lacquers, MAC's famous fluidline gel liners, beauty blushes, and 5 lipsticks colors ranging from Nude to Purple along with the 5 DazzleGlass ('Baby Sparks' being a re-launch). The mineralized shadows work amazing if you wet them. Yes, you CAN wet ONLY the mineralized eyeshadows. I don't recommend wetting the regular MAC shadows (they don't work the same and the pigment disintegrates). Don't dip your mineralized shadow into the faucet, gently wet a 239 Brush, and pack on the shadow on your lid. As all MAC collections, this one is for a limited time only. Once the collection sells out, it is gone forever!

A Red Lip

It's a fact. A perfect red lip, including lip liner, and a lipstick and perhaps a finishing gloss entitles you to a classy glamorous look. They say that red lipstick is the hardest to put on, and by all means, as a professional make-up artist, I second that! Red lips are in for all seasons I think. A lot of people limit themselves to wearing red lipstick for just the Holidays; but in fact, wearing red lipstick portrays the risky side of a woman and displays power and confidence. Don't be afraid to try something new. Take advice from me. I have very full lips, and I figured that wearing red lipstick would make me look like Bozo the Clown but in fact, it made my boyfriend fall in love with me. For those ladies with full, perky lips; take advantage! Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, and Scarlett Johanson (Aguilera and Johanson both have plump lips) portray the epitome of a fierce, risk taking woman. Try MAC's Cherry Lip Pencil and Russian Red Lipstick, for a matte look that will last you for hours.
